Painter Metin Çelik
will be on the stage with his first solo exhibition after eight years, between
the dates 10th April- 1st May at MERKUR Gallery, Istanbul.
With his exhibition
named “Chaos - Cosmos” by reading the grift construction of the nature and
human in the context of contrast, the artist is representing the relation of
place and figure with a metaphysical aesthetic. In the paintings after where
the reality is broken and manipulated, they are covering a new form and offers
us an atmosphere which contains magical reality… They go after a dream and
transform into another dream.
Metin Çelik, when he
is reflecting the rhythm of contrasts that we are facing in the life, he’s
spelling these words: “Order (cosmos) and disorder (chaos) describes the
universe in the most essential stage. One creates another and chaos dominates
again. This vicious circle is one of the codes of our existence in the micro
level. What I do is to transfer this balance on the canvas by using the
concepts, forms and colours…”

METİN ÇELİK BIO
He was born in Adana, Turkey in 1985. In 2009 graduated from
Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. While studying at the university, the artist was
Assistant of prominent Turkish artist Ömer Uluç for three years. He opened his
first solo exhibition in 2009. He started master programme in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts
University in 2013 and at the moment he is writing a thesis on the aesthetics of
Bertolt Brecht.
In the works of Metin Celik which are based on the relation
between time, space and figure; the metaphysical aesthetic of the form is the
element which is represented firstly. In the paintings, where the figures are
formed on the deprivation of human life,
there’s a holy transformation is looked for on human body .
Deprivation of time, deprivation of the feeling… The figures who
are purified from mimics and gestures, are left alone and their action space is
got tight and deprivised from the soul… This makes them as an ordinary object.
A table or a seat… In this case, Kafka’s “Transformation” ‘s
character Gregor Samsa’s transformation into an insect is an important relation
which refers to the subtext of the paintings.
In those works which shows us that we are an ordinary creatures
across the nature, the relationship of
“subject and object” is dealed again. All images which are meeting on a
floor of contrasts creates an expression of alienation on the audience.
This understanding helps us to see the ‘’Brecht kind of
aesthetic’’ which gives priority to the rational approach than emotional
approach which is against of the idea of ‘’Catharsis’’.

Sanatçının son dönem
işlerinin yer aldığı “Kaos-Kozmos” sergisinde, doğanın mutlak gücünü ve insanın
varlık mücadelesini, uykuyla uyanıklık arası bir gerçeklikte izliyor olacağız.
Sergi 1 Mayıs’a kadar Merkür Galeride izlenebilinir.
