JAUME PLENSA BRINGS “THE WHITE FOREST” TO GALERIA SENDA

Galeria Senda will present the work of one of the maximum advocates in the current sculpture scene. The sculptor from Barcelona presents a work of friendly confrontments: between dark and light, between the imprints of the past and the opening towards the future, between nature’s formations and man’s creation, and between the immensity of noise and the most intimate realms of silence. After more than five years without exhibiting in a gallery in Barcelona, Jaume Plensa presents his work at Galeria Senda for the first time with the solo show “El Bosc Blanc” (“The White Forest”), coinciding with the gallery’s 25th anniversary.

Besides being one of the maximum advocates in the current sculpture scene, Jaume Plensa is

known internationally for his dedication to art in public spaces. His works, which are found all over the world, vary between anthropomorphic sculptures, inanimate objects, and animalistic or organic forms. Some of his most interesting and distinguished projects are Crown Fountain (2004) at the Millennium Park in Chicago, and Breathing (2008), the memorial which decorated the outside of the BBC Broadcasting Headquarters in London.

The solo show “El Bosc Blanc” exposes some of Plensa’s works with a different aesthetic and a smaller scale than what he usually crafts. These sculptures are the faces of young girls, molded in wood and then filled with bronze. This allows Plensa to demonstrate the texture of wood to bronze, and play with the fusion between what is organic and what man creates. The faces are then completed with a wooden base and finally, the sculpture is covered with a white patina, turning them into softer, calmer pieces with an air of purity. The artist will accompany these sculptures with an action of graphite drawings of young faces directly on the wall.

Plensa’s sculptures are based on real faces. The young girl, whose nature is austere, thinks of

the past but also of the future, with an allusion to what is timeless. “They are always girls between 8 and 14 years old,” explains the artist, “that is when beauty changes at an incredible speed. They are in transit. They are not girls anymore, but they are not women yet”. The faces have their eyes closed to transmit spirituality and introspection more clearly. Therefore, it is understood that the interior – the wooden mold, bronze, or polished basalt – is the most organic, pure, and primordial part of the human being. “My intention has been to integrate untouchable concepts such as light, poetry, sound, and interiority, into something physical and palpable, capable of being caressed,” confesses the artist.

JAUME PLENSA’NIN “BEYAZ ORMAN” SERİSİ GALERIA SENDA’DA

Galeria Senda’nın Barselona’daki mekanında 17 Kasım 2016-21 Ocak 2017 tarikleri arasında günümüz heykel sanatının en güçlü isimlerinden Jaume Plensa’nın “Beyaz Orman” (El Bosc Blanc -The White Forest) serisi görülebilir.

Barselonalı heykeltıraş birbiriyle dost karşıtlıkları sunuyor: karanlık ve ışık, diziniz geçmiş izleri ve geleceğe yönelik açılış, doğanın formasyonları ve insan yaratımı, gürültü enginliği ve sessizliğin en mahrem krallıkları arasındaki ilişki… Barselona’da beş yıldan fazla bir süredir sergi açmayan Jaume Plensa, Galeria Senda’nın 25. Kuruluş yıldönümü nedeniyle “Beyaz Orman” serisini galeri mekanına taşımış.

1955 Barselona doğumlu Jaume Plensa, Llotja School of Art and Design ve Sant Jordi School of Fine Art’ta eğitim almış. Heykel sanatının en güçlü isimlerinden Jaume Plensa, özellikle kamusal alanda sergilediği heykelleriyle uluslararası bir üne sahip. Dünyanın farklı köşelerinde karşılaşabileceğiniz heykeller, antropomorfik heykeller, cansız nesneler ve hayvansı veya organik formlar gibi geniş bir çeşitliliğe sahiptir. Chicago Millennium Park’taki “Crown Fountain” (2004), Londra’daki BBC Merkez Binasının önünde yer alan “Breathing” (2008) öne çıkan ilginç çalışmalarından bazıları.

Sanatçı, Barselona Galeria Senda’daki “Beyaz Orman” sergisinde faklı bir estetiğe sahip ve daha küçük boyutlu çalışmalarını sergiliyor. Genç kız yüzlerinin ele alındığı heykeller, önce ahşap kalıp ile hazırlanıp, bronz ile doldurulmuş. Plensa, böylece ahşabın dokusunu, bronz ile gösterebiliyor; organik ve insan yapımı malzemelerin karışımıyla istediği şekilde oynayabiliyor. Daha sonra yüzler, ahşap bir kaide üzerine yerleştiriliyor, daha sonra beyaz patina ile kaplanan heykeller daha yumuşak, saf bir atmosfere sahip sakin parçalar haline geliyor. Plensa’nın heykellerinin temelini gerçek yüzler oluşturuyor. Sergide heykellere, genç yüzlerin, duvardaki Grafit çizimleri eşlik ediyor.
